What is the comparison price?
The comparison price (jämförpris) is the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate's (Ei) own yardstick: öre per kWh at a given annual consumption, including the energy price, any markup, and the fixed monthly fee, plus 25 % VAT. The tables show and sort it at 2,000 kWh a year by default and can be switched to 5,000 or 20,000 kWh or to a consumption you type in yourself; it is the number every contract on this site is ranked by at the chosen consumption. It excludes the grid fee (nätavgift) and the energy tax – you pay those to your grid operator and the state regardless of which supplier you pick, and they do not differ between suppliers.
Where do the prices come from?
Most prices come from Ei's open Elpriskollen API, which covers essentially the whole Swedish consumer market. On top of that, we collect prices directly from a number of suppliers' own price pages with our own collection code, as a complement for when Elpriskollen's data is missing or stale. When a supplier's own page and Elpriskollen disagree, we show the supplier's own figure – except when the page still shows the price Elpriskollen has already replaced; then Elpriskollen's newer price is shown until the page catches up. Collection runs automatically six times a day, and suppliers are legally required to report price changes to Ei the same day.
How are variable contracts priced?
The comparison price of a variable contract is Elpriskollen's figure or the supplier's own: Ei bases it on the previous month's average spot price, and suppliers' pages state which month their figure is for. Where a supplier states an energy price and a fixed fee but no comparison price, we compute it as energy price plus fixed fee (marked ⁂). For suppliers that publish a markup we also show an energy price at the 7-day reference: the mean of the last seven full days of Nord Pool day-ahead prices in your price area plus the markup, incl. VAT. That figure does not affect the ranking.
What do we deliberately leave out?
Contracts sold only to customers within the supplier's own grid area are excluded – you cannot sign up for them unless you are already a grid customer of that specific company, and listing them would misrepresent what is actually available to choose from. The same goes for member-only prices and other discounts that require membership in an organisation outside the electricity contract itself.
