Figures from the collection of 19 Oct 2026, 09:11
7-day reference
The mean of the last seven full days of Nord Pool day-ahead prices in a price area, excluding VAT. It is used to work out an energy price for suppliers that publish a markup: the reference plus the markup, incl. VAT. That figure does not affect the ranking.
| Price area | Öre/kWh excl. VAT |
|---|---|
| SE1 Luleå | 39.6 |
| SE2 Sundsvall | 55.5 |
| SE3 Stockholm | 95.4 |
| SE4 Malmö | 172.8 |
Assigned contract (anvisat avtal)
The electricity contract you are on if you use electricity in your home without having signed a supply contract – after moving in, for example: your grid operator then assigns a supplier to you. The contract is called an anvisat avtal (assigned contract) and its price anvisat pris. It runs until you choose another contract yourself, and it may not have an hourly or quarter-hourly price.
The Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei) has announced that assigned supply contracts will be replaced on 1 July 2027 by a new system, the supplier of last resort (leveransskyldig sistahandsleverantör).
In our data 59 suppliers have an assigned contract.
Binding period (bindningstid)
How long you are tied to an electricity contract. It has to be stated in the contract. If you cancel a fixed-term contract with a fixed price early, the supplier may charge an early-exit fee if the contract clearly says so. According to Energimarknadsbyrån, a contract with a variable (monthly) price may not have a binding period longer than three months.
Capacity fee (effektavgift)
A part of the grid fee at some grid companies that depends on how much electricity you use at the same time: use a lot at once and your capacity peak is high, and so is the fee. It is paid to the grid company, not to the supplier. Since June 2026 grid companies are no longer required to have one, but it is not prohibited.
Comparison price (jämförpris)
The Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate's (Ei) yardstick for comparing electricity contracts: öre per kWh at a given annual consumption, including the energy price, any markup and the fixed monthly fee, plus 25 % VAT. The grid fee and energy tax are not included.
It is the only figure here that folds both the energy price and the fee into one number, which is what makes two differently structured contracts comparable at all, and it is the number the contracts are ranked by. A contract that cannot be converted to a comparison price shows “not stated” rather than a guess; ⁂ means the comparison price is computed by us, not taken ready-made.
The comparison shows it at 2,000, 5,000 and 20,000 kWh/yr – apartment, house and electrically heated house – or at a consumption you enter yourself.
Early-exit fee (brytavgift)
A fee the supplier may charge if you cancel a fixed-term contract with a fixed price before it has run out; it is sometimes called lösenavgift. It may only be charged if the contract clearly says it can be and what it covers. Under the Electricity Act it must be reasonable and may not exceed the direct financial loss the early cancellation causes.
Electricity certificates (elcertifikat)
A scheme to increase electricity production from renewable sources such as wind, solar and biofuel. Suppliers have to buy electricity certificates in proportion to their customers' consumption, but decide themselves how large the charge is and how it is billed; on the supply invoice it can be part of the fixed markups or the variable costs. The scheme started in 2003 and runs until 2035.
Elpriskollen
The comparison service for electricity contracts run by the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei), where suppliers are required to report their contracts. Most prices here come from Elpriskollen; for some suppliers, prices are also collected directly from their own price pages. When a supplier's own page and Elpriskollen disagree, the supplier's own figure is shown – except when the page still shows a price Elpriskollen has already replaced.
In the latest collection, 1,245 of 1,767 price rows come from Elpriskollen and 522 directly from the suppliers' own pages.
Energy tax (energiskatt)
One of the lines on an electricity bill, charged per kWh. It is not part of the comparison prices or the spot prices here: you pay it whichever supplier you choose, and it does not differ between suppliers. VAT is added on top of everything, the energy tax included.
36.0 öre/kWh excl. VAT (45.0 öre incl. VAT). In the reduced-rate municipalities in northern Sweden it is 9.6 öre lower.
Facility ID (anläggnings-id)
The unique identity of your electrical installation. Together with the area ID (områdes-id), which identifies the grid settlement area, it makes up the identification code of your delivery point, which the supplier has to show on your invoice. The grid company also gives the facility ID in the message you get when a switch of supplier has been registered.
Fixed price (fast pris)
A contract with the same price for the whole term. Like every contract here, fixed contracts are compared on the comparison price.
In our data 79 suppliers sell fixed contracts, with terms of 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 months.
Grid fee (nätavgift)
The fee paid to the grid company, not to the supplier. It varies by grid area, is the same whichever supplier you choose, and is not part of any price on this site.
Hourly price (timpris)
A contract whose price follows the spot price hour by hour. Elpriskollen lists hourly and quarter-hourly prices as two contract types: kvartspris follows the spot price per quarter of an hour, timpris per hour. On the comparison page they share one tab. An assigned contract may not have an hourly price.
In our data 8 suppliers sell hourly contracts.
Markup (påslag)
The supplier's addition on top of the spot price, in öre/kWh. It does not move with the spot price. It is shown excluding VAT, in its own column for suppliers that publish one – markup and comparison price are never merged into a single number.
“Not stated” means we do not have the markup as a separate figure – not that there is none.
On the variable and hourly/quarter-hourly contracts in the comparison, the markup currently runs from 0.0 to 20.2 öre/kWh excl. VAT, across the 56 suppliers whose markup we have as a separate figure.
Mixed price (mixpris)
A contract that combines a fixed and a variable price.
In our data 17 suppliers sell mixed-price contracts.
Monthly fee (månadsavgift)
A fixed fee in kronor per month that some contracts have on top of the price per kWh. It is part of the comparison price, converted to öre/kWh at the annual consumption, so a contract with a low markup and a high fee can be compared with one with a higher markup and a lower fee. The tables show it in SEK/mo incl. VAT.
“Included” means the fee is already inside the comparison price but we do not know how it splits out – not that there is no fee. “≈” means the fee is calculated from Elpriskollen's comparison prices at 2,000 and 5,000 kWh.
Notice period (uppsägningstid)
How far in advance you must cancel a contract: with two months' notice you cancel it two months before you want it to end. It has to be stated in the contract. An assigned contract may have a notice period of at most 14 days, and according to Energimarknadsbyrån a contract with a variable (monthly) price may not have a notice period longer than three months.

Origin labelling (ursprungsmärkning)
Suppliers' disclosure of how the electricity they sell was produced, for example by wind, hydro or nuclear power, and of its environmental impact. Every supplier has to disclose it. To guarantee an origin, a supplier has to buy guarantees of origin for the same amount of electricity as it sells with that origin.
If you do not choose a contract with a guaranteed origin, you get electricity from the residual mix (residualmix): the environmental value that is left once the electricity sold with a guaranteed origin has been taken out.
Price area (elområde, SE1–SE4)
Sweden is split into four price areas, from SE1 in the north to SE4 in the south. The price area determines the spot price – the price that variable, quarter-hourly and hourly contracts are calculated from – because the grid can only move a limited amount of power between areas. Fixed prices can differ between areas too, if a supplier prices them per area.
| Price area | Öre/kWh excl. VAT |
|---|---|
| SE1 Luleå | 45.9 |
| SE2 Sundsvall | 51.5 |
| SE3 Stockholm | 87.3 |
| SE4 Malmö | 120.1 |

Quarter-hourly price (kvartspris)
A contract whose price follows the exchange's spot price quarter by quarter: you pay the spot price for each quarter of an hour plus the supplier's markup and VAT, and on some contracts a fixed monthly fee. Energy tax and the grid fee come on top.
Since 1 October 2025 Nord Pool sets the day-ahead price per 15 minutes instead of per hour, so a normal day has 96 prices per price area. An assigned contract may not have a quarter-hourly price.
In our data 100 suppliers sell quarter-hourly contracts.
Right of withdrawal (ångerrätt)
The right to withdraw from a contract you signed at a distance, for example online or by phone: 14 days under the Distance Contracts Act. According to the Swedish Consumer Agency the period starts the day after you signed. Tell the supplier in writing if you withdraw.
Spot price (day-ahead price)
What electricity trades at on the Nord Pool power exchange. It is settled the day before, in an auction between producers and suppliers, separately for every price area – since 1 October 2025 for every quarter hour, before that for every hour. It is the bare electricity price: the supplier's markup, energy tax, VAT and the grid fee are not included.
Daily average on 19 October 2026: SE1 22.6, SE2 46.1, SE3 135.1 and SE4 231.5 öre/kWh excl. VAT.
Variable price (rörligt pris)
A contract whose price changes every month; on this site variable means a monthly price. According to the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate it is the month's average price, weighted by when the supplier's customers on the same contract use electricity. Elpriskollen bases the comparison price of a variable contract on the previous month's average spot price, and suppliers' pages state which month their figure is for.
For suppliers that publish a markup, the comparison also shows an energy price at the 7-day reference.
In our data 113 suppliers sell variable contracts.
VAT (moms)
25 percent. Every comparison price, energy price and SEK/year figure in the comparison tables includes VAT, and VAT is added on top of everything, the energy tax included. The markup and the 7-day reference are shown excluding VAT.
Spot prices on the spot price page and in the monthly archive are shown excluding VAT, the way the exchange quotes them; on the spot price page you can switch to prices with VAT.
