How the comparison price is worked out

Every contract is ranked by its comparison price: öre/kWh incl. VAT at 2,000 kWh/year by default, or at the consumption you chose, covering both the energy price and the fixed fee. Suppliers that publish a markup instead get their own column — markup and comparison price are never merged into a single number.

The comparison price covers the energy price, markup, fixed fees and 25 % VAT. The grid fee and energy tax are not included — those go to your grid operator whichever supplier you pick.

Fixed or variable?

Three prices for SE3 Stockholm in öre/kWh incl. VAT. The fixed price includes the markup and fixed fee; the other two are the pure energy price.

Variable over the last twelve months93.8 öre/kWhspot price October 2025 – September 2026, same weighting · no markup or fee

A fixed price contains the supplier's markup, fixed fee and the supplier's charge for carrying the price risk, so it sits above the pure energy price. What a variable price cost over the past year says nothing about the coming one. Grid fees and energy tax come on top of all three.

Frequently asked questions

A short guide to how electricity contracts work in Sweden and how the figures on this page are worked out.

What does “comparison price” (jämförpris) mean, and why is it the only figure that compares directly?

The comparison price is the energy price plus the fixed fee, converted to öre/kWh at a given annual consumption, including VAT. It is the only figure on this site that folds both the energy price and the fee into one number, which is what makes two differently structured contracts — say, different markups and different fixed fees — comparable at all. A supplier that states only a markup, with no fixed fee or energy price, cannot always be converted to a comparison price; such rows show “not stated” rather than a guess.

What is the difference between fixed price, variable price and quarter-hourly price?

A fixed price stays the same for the whole term. A variable price (the monthly price on this site) changes every month: according to the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate it is the month's average price, weighted by when the supplier's customers on the same contract use electricity. The reference shown here is the mean of the last seven full days of Nord Pool day-ahead prices for your price area. Quarter-hourly price, like hourly price, follows the exchange price quarter by quarter or hour by hour, so it moves from hour to hour instead of being set in advance.

What does the price area (SE1–SE4) mean for the price?

Sweden is split into four price areas, from SE1 in the north to SE4 in the south. The price area determines the spot price — the price that variable, quarter-hourly and hourly contracts are calculated from — because the grid can only move a limited amount of power between areas. Fixed prices can differ between areas too, if a supplier prices them per area. Pick your price area at the top of the page to see the right prices.

Does the price include VAT?

Yes for the comparison price, energy price and SEK/year figures: they include 25 percent VAT. The markup and the spot prices are shown excluding VAT. The grid fee and energy tax are not part of any figure here — those go to your grid operator whichever supplier you choose.

Where do the prices come from?

Most prices come from Elpriskollen, the comparison service run by the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei), where suppliers are required to report their contracts. For some suppliers, prices are also collected directly from their own price pages. The “Updated” line under the price tiles at the top of the comparison shows when the site was last updated.

How often are the prices on this site updated?

The site rebuilds every time a new data collection run finishes. The time of the latest update is on the “Updated” line under the price tiles at the top of the comparison. Always check with the supplier before signing — the collection can lag behind the supplier's own page.
